Star Tours Panorama

Trying out my new 360 app for my iPhone. What do you think? A panoramic view of the Star Tours pre-show with C-3PO and R2-D2 in the StarSpeeder 1000.

I was hoping to ride Star Tours: The Adventure Continues several times, but I was only able to ride it once. I'm not complaining; one ride is better than none at all, right?!?

Go with the Flo's

Besides traveling, what's my favorite pastime? Why, eating of course! (And it can be argued that eating is my favorite pastime from all my Yelp posts and check-ins.)

So while checking out the new Cars Land at Disney's California Adventure, a review wouldn't be complete without talking about some food! So let's talk about Flo's V8 Cafe.

Now, because I knew we'd be having dinner in a few hours at Carthay Circle Restaurant, I didn't want to eat too much. Did I actually just type that?!?  In reality, I still am afraid of another pacreatitis flare-up, and never want to go through that again, especially during a trip to a Disney Park!

The entrance looks just like it does in the movie, complete with gas pumps. As soon as you walk through the door, you are stepping back in time with colors, sounds and smells. A friendly Cast Member hands you a menu at the door to help you decide as you wait in the queue. So many wonderful choices, and they even serve beer here. But as I stated above, this boy was going to make some healthier lunch choices, which you can do at Flo's.

Oooh! Shiny object! (Or should I say, 'Squirrel!'?)  Good thing I packed my suitcase yesterday since I'm going home tomorrow, or I would have tried to find a way to bring this necessary but fun souvenir home with me.

Okay, back to food. I opted to order the Citrus Turkey Salad, made with mixed Greens, Arugula, carrots, cucumbers and yellow peppers, tossed with a citrus tarragon dressing and served with a garlic chive roll for only $10.99. A bargain that's good for you too! In reality, as good as a burger sounds, this salad had amazing flavors and did the job of filling me up, but not too much for dinner. Seriously, try it. And if you really need to, you can get your bumper back in line and get yourself a slice of good ol' fashion pie.

Get Your Kicks on Route 66

Having grown up in California and moved to the Midwest, I've traveled the original Route 66. This tribute to that famous highway can now be traveled in Cars Land.

When John Lasseter and the team of Disney Imagineers announced they were makeing Cars Land at Disney's California Adventure, we knew it would be good. However, nobody knew exactly how good. Let's just say they nailed it. You feel like you've stepped right into Radiator Springs. You see many of the familiar sites seen in Cars and Cars 2, only life size.

The main attraction in Cars Land is Radiator Springs Racers. The vehicles are just that, and you are whisked around Radiator Springs and Ornament Valley Range. You even meet several of the beloved Cars characters throughout your trip.

Anyone who has been on Test Track at EPCOT will notice the similarity of the track, but it stops there. You are so enthralled with being in the world of Lightning McQueen, Mater, Doc Hudson, Sally and the gang, you almost forget you're on an attraction. The best part is when you actually "race" against another vehicle!

I got my kicks on Route 66 in Cars Land!

The Happiest Friends on Earth

Reunion week continues, and this one was as welcomed as my high school reunion. Here are some of the best people with whom I worked at Disneyland, some of whom I've known for over 28 years. Some of them I haven't seen since I left the Park in 1991.

I worked with most of this group in Tomorrowland, as well as on Splash Mountain in Critter Country. Like my high school friends, these friends have become family, and the belly laughs we had tonight reminiscing about the good old days helped make this trip home one for the memory books. It's friends like these that make coming home to California special. It's not the Californian traffic that makes me home sick.
Working at the Parks may not be the same now as it was back then, but thanks to each of you for continuing to be magical friends!

This Sums It Up: Friends.

Those of us who stayed the night and were able to get up around 9:00-9:30 AM, went to brunch. Some to nurse a hangover, and others, I'm sure, because they had the munchies. And as usual, there was an after party of sorts again...back in the bar.

It doesn't matter that my classmates are a bunch of booze hounds   older than dirt   miles away from each other, but just look at the smiles on these faces. We've been through so many good times and bad, grew up together and have grown even closer over the years. Reunions do what they are supposed to do: bring great friends together and make even more fond memories.

The cameras were snapping pictures, and many may not even make it to the web, but that's okay. The bonds of friendship that continue through the years and over the miles continue to strengthen as witnessed by these smiles and good times.

Here's to you, Class of 1982. No matter what people say, you all turned out to be first class friends in my book. Thank you for your gift of friendship.

You've Got to Have Friends

Of course there are a hundred stories that go along with all these pictures. Some just speak for themselves.

Left to right: Mike, Tim, Melina, Paula

My friend, Kerrie, whom I've known since elementary school. I love her and she hasn't changed one bit!

Donna

Cheese!

So this picture is one of those that has a back story. Our friend, Chris, told us that our friend, Donna, who is living in England, wished she could be here. She wanted to send us a hug from across the Pond, so we took a picture to "hug" her back.
Tim, Bruce, Mike

And this is us with Chris who was the "hug by proxy."

Casey and Nikki

What is Nikki looking at?

Two great friends of mine, April and Jim. Jim and I used to go to almost every dance in high school, and he still can boogie!
April and Jim

No dance is complete if you're not pointing.

Val was our homecoming queen, and I still love dancing with her. She's a blast!

Hector hasn't changed. Still surrounded by the ladies.

I have no idea what the conversation was about, but I love this picture! Casey is accusing Carlos of something, and Carlos is probably guilty of the charge.

Look at those smiles!
