Star Wars Celebration 2015

As usual, I can't make it to this awesome event. I will have to geek out vicariously through my two friends who are going again. The line up this year is fantastic. I would have loved to be there to listen to Dave Filoni and Kilian Plunkett, to name a few. (I'm a big fan of 'The Clone Wars' and 'Rebels'.)

Of course, there are so many other Star Wars iconic people from Anthony Daniels to Carrie Fisher and more that I would love to see. Work always gets in the way of play.

Anyway, I saw a couple of prints that really caught my eye. One of my dear friends offered to try and get what I wanted. Because I'm a big 'Rebels' fan, this was one of my choices.

This was my other choice.

But my friend just informed me yesterday that she was able to get my first choice, and she was also able to get one for herself. I'm indebted to her!

Spring Cleaning-WDCC Style

Why is it that we are compelled to do some extra cleaning when it's spring? I'm not a slob by any means. But I think after the long winter, and the sun starting have some extra time to shine through the windows, you see what having a fireplace does to one's home.

Then I look at the curios. My goodness! I used all my energy to decorate for the holidays. Now it's time to sing a happy tune and clean all that glass!

I don't have woodland friends to help me, nor would I want that for this task. I'm always fearful when I clean my eight curios that I'm going to break something. But then another feeling starts to permeate me: nostalgia.

When I look at my Walt Disney Classics Collection (and those with a sharp eye will see Grand Jester Studios and Robert Olszewski pieces), I see not only the piece, but so many fond memories of friends, conventions, trips, exciting conversations of anticipated pieces, the thrill of the hunt finding that lowest number of the numbered limited edition (NLE) piece. I think about the detailing. The hours of craftmanship and research that went into every piece. And of course, I think about the animated feature or short that inspired the piece.

WDCC is more than about the piece. It's about the community, the friendships, the lifelong bonds it created. That's why the line was is so special to my friends who collect it and me.

Oh, and if you're going to ask if those eight curios showcase my entire collection, the answer is no. I could fill at least another 10 curios. No lie.

Totally My Element

Way back in high school, I had to memorize the Periodic Table. I can still recite it:

Hydrogen, Helium, Beryllium, Boron, Carbon, Nitrogen...I did not copy and paste that! It's funny how some things stick with you. Kind of like singing "Fifty Nifty United States" helped me recite the states in alphabetical order.

Now you can memorize Disney's version of the Periodic Table, including Rare Earths!

This would have made high school science a lot more fun. Of course, I would have blurted out this version instead of the actual elements!

Tahuwai La A Tahuwai Wai La

If you've been to Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room, then you know those words as the flowers sing before the Hawaiian War Chant.

Not only have I always loved the Enchanted Tiki Room, but I've always love tiki-themed anything. There's something nostalgic, magical and fun. I look to work done by Kevin Kidney, Jody Daily, and Shag. And of course, they all have done some great work with Disney as well.

Anyone who has met me knows I'm as comfortable in a suit and tie as I am in a t-shirt and shorts. Of course my preference is casual wear, and Hawaiian shirts have always been part of my wardrobe since I was a kid, with Dad and me sporting matching 'Primo' shirts in Hawaii. (Complete with white belt and shoes. It was the 1970's after all!)

So when The Disney Blog announced a preview of the new Polynesian Village Resort merchandise, I was thrilled! Of course, two shirts caught my eye.

You can't go wrong with a fun Mickey Hawaiian shirt. Heck, it even has Dole Whip on it!!!

But the shirt that really caught my eye is the Trader Sam's Grog Grotto shirt.

It totally would work with my Enchanted Tiki Room shirt, don't you think? My sunglasses, too.
